- Persian cyclamen contains naturally occurring compounds called terpenoid saponins, which can cause skin irritation and poisoning in dogs.
- These toxins are present in all parts of the plant, including the flowers. However, the root or tuber has the highest concentration of these dangerous chemicals, making it particularly hazardous to dogs.
- Ingesting small amounts of cyclamen can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, and hypersalivation. Large quantities can result in severe toxicity symptoms, such as heart arrhythmia, paralysis, and seizures.
