- The leaves and stems of viper's bugloss are covered with coarse hairs that can cause skin irritation in dogs. If chewed, it may also lead to oral pain.
- Several parts of this plant, including its sap, seeds, flowers, and bark, are said to be poisonous. However, it is not yet definitively known if this plant poses a toxic threat to dogs.
