Risks
- The fruit of the toyon contains cyanogenic glycosides, which convert to poisonous cyanides in the mouths of humans and horses. Although the risk to dogs is not well-established, the possibility of poisoning exists.
- Both the leaves and fruits of the toyon contain tannins, which are toxic to animals.
