- The peony contains a naturally occurring toxic agent called paenol, which poses a threat to dogs.
- Gastrointestinal problems are the most common adverse reactions associated with ingesting a peony. Affected dogs may experience nausea, abdominal cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea. Delayed treatment can increase the risk of severe dehydration.
