- The pencil cactus’ white milky sap contains toxins that can cause gastrointestinal distress when consumed by dogs. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
- Coming into contact with the plant’s sap can result in painful blisters and rashes. If it gets in the eyes, temporary loss of vision may occur in dogs.
