- Several parts of the mayapple, including its roots, stems, leaves, and fruits, contain the toxin podophyllotoxin. Consuming any of these parts can lead to fever, lethargy, hypersalivation, vomiting, and diarrhea in dogs.
- Coming into contact with the toxic parts of the plant can cause skin irritation and inflammation in dogs.
