Risks
- Hops, the dried flowers used in brewing beer, contain compounds that can cause malignant hyperthermia in dogs. This condition is marked by a rapid and dangerous increase in body temperature, which can cause severe damage to the brain and organs and, in extreme cases, may be fatal.
- Breeds such as Greyhounds, Saint Bernards, Dobermans, Border Collies, English Springer Spaniels, and Retrievers are especially vulnerable to hops poisoning and should be kept away from hops entirely.
