Risks
- All parts of the flamingo flower plant contain needlelike crystals of insoluble calcium oxalate. Chewing or swallowing the plant can irritate a dog's mouth and airways, causing a burning sensation and throat swelling, which may lead to breathing problems.
- The calcium oxalate crystals can also cause gastric upset in dogs. In severe cases, they may contribute to liver and kidney damage.
