- Buttercup contains ranunculin, a compound that turns into the toxin protoanemonin when chewed. The highest concentration of this toxin is found in the flowers.
- Ingesting buttercup can cause symptoms like excessive drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, and weakness. Without prompt treatment, complications such as tremors, seizures, or even paralysis can occur.
- Skin contact with buttercup may lead to painful inflammation, rashes, and itching in dogs.
