- Various parts of the American holly, including its bark, fruit, and leaves, contain different types of toxins such as theobromine and cyanogenic glucosides. The berries and leaves of this plant have lower concentrations of toxins.
- Dogs that ingested the American holly are at risk of experiencing digestive upset, including diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach cramps. Another symptom that may occur is hypersalivation.
