Risks
- The lily of the valley contains saponins and about 40 cardiac glycosides, making it extremely poisonous to dogs. These compounds are present in all parts of the plant, including its flowers, berries, and especially the roots.
- When ingested, lily of the valley can cause digestive issues such as diarrhea, bloody stools, vomiting, and stomach cramps. Other clinical signs of poisoning may include heart arrhythmia, an abnormally slow heartbeat, and seizures.
