- All parts of the azalea plant contain grayanotoxin, a naturally occurring poison that affects the heart and skeletal muscles of dogs.
- Ingesting azalea can cause gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. It may also lead to cardiovascular and neurological side effects, including heart arrhythmia, tremors, and seizures.
- Dogs can experience azalea poisoning after ingesting as little as 0.2% of their body weight.
